Gender and household duties

I hear many, many complaints about the division of household duties (and parenting etc) between the sexes.

Jan (superstar SORTED sorter) is studying psychology and would love your help by completing a short survey regarding this hot issue. This study looks fantastic – I look forward to learning the results. Jan says:

As part of a research project for our studies at Monash University, we are seeking participants to complete a brief online survey investigating the impact of job stress, work-family and family-work conflict on spouses’ contributions to household duties. In particular, we wish to find participants who meet all of the following criteria:

·         Married or living with a significant other, with at least one child below the age of 13 living at home with them;
·         Both spouses employed in white-collar occupations in the Australian workforce (can be full-time, part-time or casual)

If you meet the criteria above, we would very much appreciate you and your spouses’ time in completing our survey. We are seeking a response from each spouse as we are investigating gender effects.

The survey comprises four pages and should take around 15 to 20 minutes maximum to complete. You can find the online survey at the following link:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/DJZLTR9

NB: In order for both you and your partner to complete the survey you may need to clear your cache (in Internet Explorer go to Tools, Internet Options, General, Temporary Internet Files section, Delete Files).

We ask that you please complete the survey by Wednesday 8th September 2010.

Attached is a participant information sheet, which outlines the parameters of the research, as well as confidentiality and ethics information. All responses from the survey are completely confidential, as participants provide a de-identified code.

Please forward this information to any other married couples you may know who also meet the above criteria. Our research will be more meaningful if we are able to obtain a larger number of participants.

Should you have any queries, or require any further information, please do not hesitate to respond via return email. Alternatively, you can contact the Research Project Supervisor listed on the participant information sheet.

Thank you for your participation.

Kind regards

Jan Malcolm
