How much is enough?

Great post here about storage – and not having enough at home.

I have long believed that the volume of stuff we own is dictated by the amount of space we have: our stuff will expand to fit (or exceed!) any given boundary. I think the trick is to reduce the bounday – eg, downsize and then deal with the content, eg declutter!

What do you think? Is your space big enough? Do you wish you had a bigger home or workspace? Could you live in a space half the size?

  1. Thanks for the pointer – that was good reading!

“I have long believed that the volume of stuff we own is dictated by the amount of space we have. . .” – unfortunately, for some people, the amount of space in their home doesn’t seem to limit them, even if it’s far from small. They just get a self-storage locker (or two)!

My house is on the smaller side, having been built before houses grew huge here in the U.S. I like the smaller size; I’ve never wished it was bigger.

  2. My husband and I are raising our largish family in a small house. We have four children and only 3 small bedrooms. I have found that since downsizing, we have bought things more responsibly and have not needed half the storage ‘solutions’ we did in a larger home – purely because we have less stuff.
